Nifty 50 Pre-Market Analysis: Will 23,000 Hold? Key Levels, Bank Nifty, Options Data & Stocks to Watch — 28 September 2026
Nifty 50 Pre-Market Analysis: Why 23,000 Is the Key Level Today
The Indian stock market enters the trading session of September 28, 2026, with traders closely watching the 23,000 level on the Nifty 50.
Nifty recovered during the final hours of Friday’s session and closed at 23,140, gaining 0.34%. However, the index still ended the week 0.88% lower, while the broader technical structure continued to show lower highs and lower lows. Moneycontrol’s technical analysis identifies 23,000 as the crucial support, with 23,300–23,500 as the important upside zone if that support holds.
For traders, therefore, the key question for Monday is not simply whether the market opens higher or lower. The bigger question is:
Can Nifty sustain above 23,000?
Nifty 50 Technical Analysis
Nifty 50 closed Friday at 23,140.
According to the technical setup, the immediate pivot-based resistance levels are:
- 23,162
- 23,196
- 23,250
The corresponding support levels are:
- 23,054
- 23,020
- 22,966
The index formed a bullish candle on the daily chart after recovering from a low near 23,021. However, the recovery was not considered strong enough to change the broader structure, with major moving averages still indicating a downtrend. The RSI was at 34.23, while MACD remained below its signal line.
Nifty Key Levels for September 28
Level Zone Major Support 23,000 Immediate Support 23,020–23,054 Immediate Resistance 23,162–23,250 Upside Resistance 23,300–23,500 Breakdown Zone 22,800–22,700 A sustained move below 23,000 could expose Nifty to the 22,800–22,700 region, while holding above the level could keep the possibility of a move towards 23,300–23,500 open.
Nifty Options Chain: 23,000 vs 23,500
Options data gives another important perspective.
On the Call side, the 23,500 strike had the highest open interest at around 1.41 crore contracts, followed by 23,400 and 23,300. This makes the 23,500 area an important resistance zone to monitor.
On the Put side, the 23,000 strike had the highest open interest at around 1.44 crore contracts, followed by 23,100 and 22,800. This makes 23,000 an important support level in the short term.
Simple Options Interpretation
23,000 PE OI → Support zone
23,500 CE OI → Resistance zone
This creates an important range for traders to watch during the session.
The Capital Cents pre-market sheet also records Max Pain at 23,250 and India VIX at 12.16 based on its September 25 market-data refresh.
Bank Nifty Analysis
Bank Nifty closed Friday at approximately 55,580.
The index bounced 0.26% during the session but remained below key moving averages. The technical indicators also continued to show weakness, with RSI below 40 and MACD below its signal line.
Bank Nifty Important Levels
Support:
- 55,424
- 55,332
- 55,183
- Major psychological support: 55,000
Resistance:
- 55,721
- 55,813
- 55,961
- Higher zone: 56,000–56,500
Options data also shows maximum Put OI around 55,000, while maximum Call OI was at 57,000.
Therefore, traders can keep a close watch on the 55,000–57,000 broader range, with price action around the intermediate levels providing additional clues.
India VIX and Market Volatility
India VIX declined 4.16% on Friday to 12.16, after having surged nearly 23% during the previous session. Moneycontrol noted that further cooling below the 12 zone would provide greater comfort to the bullish side.
The Capital Cents market sheet also records India VIX at 12.16.
For traders, volatility remains an important variable because sudden expansion in VIX can result in larger intraday price swings.
FII and DII Activity
The Capital Cents pre-market data sheet records the following institutional activity from its latest available refresh:
FII
Buy: ₹9,243.17 crore
Sell: ₹12,516.34 crore
Approximate net flow:
-₹3,273.17 crore
DII
Buy: ₹12,798.86 crore
Sell: ₹10,203.71 crore
Approximate net flow:
+₹2,595.15 crore
This indicates that, in that reported session, FII selling exceeded buying while DII buying exceeded selling.
Note: These institutional-flow numbers come from the Capital Cents sheet and were based on its September 25 refresh; they should not be presented as September 28 live flows.

Several stocks are in focus on September 28 following company-specific developments. SignatureGlobal India is also among the stocks in focus following a reported land acquisition development.
What About Mid-Cap and Small-Cap Stocks?
Another important market theme is the upcoming Q2FY27 earnings season.
According to Unmesh Sharma, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Institutional Equities at HDFC Securities, PAT growth for the firm’s coverage universe excluding oil and gas is estimated at around 13–14% in Q2FY27, compared with 18–19% in Q1FY27. He also said management commentary will be important in assessing whether earnings momentum can continue from Q3 onwards.
Sharma also pointed to several emerging themes within the mid- and small-cap segment, while citing healthy corporate balance sheets, internal cash flows and growth as factors attracting liquidity to the segment.
At the same time, elevated crude prices have increased margin pressure, with Moneycontrol’s report highlighting potential pressure across sectors such as chemicals, FMCG and cement.
Stocks With Previous Technical Setups
A September 25 Moneycontrol technical report had also highlighted stocks including Inventurus Knowledge Solutions, HBL Engineering, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Arvind, RR Kabel and SKF India.
For example, Inventurus Knowledge Solutions was described as having broken out of a multi-month sloping channel, while HBL Engineering was reported to have broken out of a consolidation range with strong volume participation.
These were September 25 technical setups, not fresh September 28 recommendations, so traders should reassess the current price and chart structure before considering any trade.
Nifty 50 Trading Setup for September 28
The key levels can be simplified into three scenarios:
Scenario 1: Nifty Holds 23,000
If Nifty sustains above the 23,000 support zone and buying momentum improves, traders may watch:
23,162 → 23,250 → 23,300 → 23,500
Scenario 2: Nifty Breaks Below 23,000
A sustained breakdown below 23,000 could shift attention towards:
22,800 → 22,700
Scenario 3: Range-Bound Market
If neither side gets strong follow-through, Nifty could remain volatile within the broader 23,000–23,500 zone.
The earlier September 25 trading plan also identified 23,000 as critical support and highlighted 23,200–23,300 as an immediate resistance zone.
Final Takeaway
For the September 28, 2026 trading session, the most important level on Nifty 50 is 23,000.
The options structure places significant Put OI around 23,000 and Call OI around 23,500, giving traders two important reference points. Meanwhile, Bank Nifty’s 55,000 level remains important, while company-specific news could drive volatility in several stocks.
The market is therefore likely to remain highly level-sensitive.
