Nifty 50 Pre-Market Analysis for September 29, 2026: Key Levels, F&O Expiry, Bank Nifty & Stocks in Focus

September 29, 2026 is an important session for Indian markets as traders prepare for the monthly F&O expiry. After a sharp sell-off in the previous session, Nifty 50 and Bank Nifty are entering the session with important technical levels, elevated volatility and significant options positioning.

In this Capital Cents pre-market analysis, we cover the key Nifty 50 and Bank Nifty levels, options data, India VIX, global market cues, institutional flows and stocks that could remain in focus.

Nifty 50 Today: Key Levels to Watch

Nifty 50 closed at 22,780 on September 28, after falling more than 1.5 percent. Moneycontrol’s technical setup identified 22,753, 22,678 and 22,556 as pivot-based support levels, while 22,996, 23,071 and 23,192 were identified as resistance levels.

For today’s session, the 22,750–22,800 zone is therefore an important area to watch.

According to the September 29 trade setup, a sustained move above 22,800 could bring 23,000 into focus. On the other hand, a break below 22,700 could shift attention towards the 22,500 level.

Nifty 50 Levels

  • Immediate support: 22,750
  • Key downside level: 22,700
  • Next downside zone: 22,500
  • Immediate upside zone: 22,800
  • Major resistance: 23,000

These are market levels to monitor rather than guaranteed price targets.

Nifty Options Data

Options positioning is particularly important ahead of the F&O expiry.

According to Moneycontrol’s September 29 setup, the 23,000 Call strike had the maximum Call Open Interest at around 2.14 crore contracts, making it an important resistance level. Significant Call writing was also observed at 23,000.

On the Put side, the 22,800 strike had the maximum Put Open Interest at around 1.27 crore contracts, followed by 22,500 and 22,700.

The Capital Cents pre-market sheet also highlighted 23,000 Call OI, 22,000 Put OI, a PCR of 0.87, and Max Pain at 22,950 based on its September 28 market data.

This makes the area between roughly 22,700 and 23,000 particularly important for traders monitoring expiry-day positioning.

Bank Nifty Today: 54,400 in Focus

Bank Nifty also witnessed selling pressure in the previous session.

Moneycontrol’s technical analysis placed pivot-based support at 54,403, 54,178 and 53,814, while resistance levels were identified at 55,130, 55,355 and 55,719.

The broader trading plan also highlighted 54,400 as an important level for Bank Nifty ahead of the F&O expiry.

Therefore, traders may keep the following levels on their radar:

  • Key support: 54,400
  • Additional support: 54,000–53,800
  • Resistance: 55,000
  • Higher resistance zone: 55,130–55,700

India VIX and Market Volatility

Volatility is another major factor for today’s session.

India VIX rose 12.15 percent to 13.63 on September 28, reaching its highest closing level since July 24, according to Moneycontrol. The rise indicates increased market uncertainty and caution.

With the F&O expiry approaching, traders should be prepared for sharper intraday moves and rapid changes around key option strikes.

The Capital Cents pre-market sheet also tracks India VIX as part of the market setup.

FII and DII Activity

Institutional flows remain an important factor for the Indian market.

The Capital Cents pre-market data tracks both FII and DII activity, alongside global cues, currency movement and commodities.

At the broader macro level, a strong US dollar could create pressure on foreign portfolio flows into emerging markets, including India. This was also highlighted in Moneycontrol’s Daily Voice article featuring the Bank of India Mutual Fund CIO.

Therefore, traders should watch the combination of:

  • FII/FPI flows
  • DII activity
  • US dollar movement
  • Global bond yields
  • Crude oil
  • Asian market performance

rather than looking at any single indicator in isolation.

Global Market Cues

Global markets are an important part of the pre-market setup.

The Capital Cents data showed GIFT Nifty around 22,818.50 during the September 28 refresh, while global indices and commodities were also being tracked for the September 29 setup.

The previous session’s market weakness was accompanied by concerns around higher US bond yields and rising volatility. Moneycontrol noted that US bond yields had moved to a fresh 19-year high, adding to the cautious sentiment.

Stocks in Focus Today

Apart from the index setup, several individual stocks are worth monitoring based on recent price action, technical setups and corporate developments.

Samvardhana Motherson

Samvardhana Motherson was among the stocks covered in Moneycontrol’s September 28 Trade Spotlight, where traders’ technical setups were discussed.

Balrampur Chini Mills

Balrampur Chini Mills was also featured in the Trade Spotlight segment, making it one of the stocks to monitor for technical developments.

Jubilant FoodWorks

Jubilant FoodWorks was another stock covered in the September 28 technical trade discussion.

HBL Engineering

HBL Engineering also featured in the Trade Spotlight coverage and remains part of the stock-specific watchlist for the session.

HDFC Bank

HDFC Bank was included in the same market coverage and remains relevant to the broader banking-sector setup.

Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases

Ellenbarrie Industrial Gases is in focus following a ₹481 crore contract win from BHEL. Moneycontrol reported that the order relates to the supply and installation of a cryogenic oxygen plant and associated facilities at BHEL’s Tiruchi plant.

The stock could therefore attract attention from traders looking for company-specific catalysts.

F&O Positioning and Expiry-Day Setup

Expiry sessions can behave differently from regular trading sessions because option positioning can influence intraday price movement.

The current setup shows important positioning around:

Nifty:
22,700–22,800 on the downside
23,000 on the upside

Bank Nifty:
54,000–54,400 on the downside
55,000 on the upside

The key takeaway is that traders should watch how price behaves around these levels rather than relying only on directional assumptions.

What Traders Should Watch Today

For September 29, the major market triggers include:

  1. Nifty holding or losing 22,750–22,700
  2. Nifty’s ability to sustain above 22,800
  3. 23,000 Call OI and resistance
  4. Bank Nifty around 54,400
  5. India VIX and intraday volatility
  6. FII/DII activity
  7. US dollar and global bond yields
  8. Expiry-related option positioning
  9. Stock-specific developments
  10. Price action around major support and resistance zones

Final Takeaway

The September 29 session comes with a combination of F&O expiry, elevated volatility, important option positioning and a weak technical structure.

For Nifty 50, 22,750–22,700 is an important downside area, while 22,800 and 23,000 are key levels on the upside. Bank Nifty traders can keep 54,400 and the broader 54,000–55,000 range on their radar.

Rather than trying to predict every market move, traders can focus on price action around these predefined levels and manage risk accordingly.
